EMBODI THEATRE

EMBODI THEATRE is an emerging Meanjin-based independent multicultural theatre company committed to producing refreshing purpose-driven stage productions that authentically reflect migrant experiences and create social change.

Spearheaded by Amy Chien-Yu Wang, a former Queensland Multicultural Awards winner in the business category, our mission stems from a desire for more migrant stories to be told and seen in Australia.

We firmly believe that genuine multicultural harmony thrives when cultures understand

each other’s differences and similarities through storytelling and thoughtful efforts to bridge cultural and linguistic gaps.

Our forthcoming production, AI May is an exciting bilingual stage performance

in Mandarin and English delving into the intersection of artificial intelligence and the human experience.

This production has undergone two creative development phases, culminating in public

work-in-progress showcases in Sunnybank and Runcorn, both streamed to international audiences.

Amy Chien-Yu Wang - Artistic Director

As a 1.5 generation Taiwanese migrant and former SBS journalist, Amy Chien-Yu Wang 王千毓 possesses a distinctive perspective and multidimensional storytelling approach that fosters intercultural understanding, empathy, and respect. Amy aims to utilise theatre as a platform for initiating healing conversations that promote mental well-being and strengthen family ties. Recognising a lack of authentic cultural representation and layered depictions of migrant stories on stage, Amy has created Embodi Theatre to amplify diverse storytelling and representation in Australian theatre. While Embodi Theatre is a young theatre company, it prides itself on creating quality, impactful stage productions that bring different cultures together through shared human experiences.

Amy is dedicated to informing, entertaining, provoking, and inspiring audiences through her storytelling and theatre productions. Her mission revolves around bridging cultural gaps, raising awareness of mental health issues, and fostering greater understanding between generations. She was a 2022 participant in Playlab’s Incubator Program for emerging writers, and an intern with Zen Zen Zo Physical Theatre’s Creative Entrepreneurship program.
